What is the preview version?
When doing changes in the publication (all kinds of changes) the preview link will always reflect the current settings of the publication. The preview link is the link you see if you click the preview button and it adds the string viewtype=pubPreview to the url. As you may have noticed previews may load slower than viewing an activated publication.
What is the activated version?
When a publication is activated and is put into production the link from the url section should be used. Notice that this link does not contain the viewtype=pubPreview string in the url. This means that settings can be cached in the Akamai network and thus be loaded much faster.
When do changes to my publication reflect in the active version?
So, if you do changes to an already published publication you can see the changes by using the preview link. When you look at the production url you may notice that the changes you just made are not yet visible. This is because the settings are loaded from Akamai's cache. The cache timeout on the resources are up to 14 hours. After that period, the changes will be reflected in production.
How do I force changes through on an already active version?
You can however force the changes through on an active publication within 20 mins by following the instructions below:
1. Go to My Publications
2. Click the checkbox (left column) on your chosen publication
3. Click the "Refresh on CDN" button at the bottom of the screen
4. Click OK on the window that opens
5. Wait around 20-30 minutes
Note: Previous visitors to this publication may need to clear their browser cache or wait up till 8 hours before changes are visible, due to browser caching. Learn how to clear your browser's cache.
